Tournament Time

It’s tournament time in the Abacos and over the next couple of weeks game fishermen from all over the world are competing to see who can hook the biggest fish! Not only are their sights set on the cash prize, but they are vying for bragging rights over who can bring in the biggest catch.

The ocean beyond Elbow Cay has some of the best feeding grounds for large migrating fish. This time of the year, Mahi Mahi, Tuna and Marlin are plentiful as they gather just offshore to feed. This is the target area for most tournament fishermen.

Even if you can’t take part in the tournament itself, it’s still a great time to be in Abaco. The weather has been beautiful all week and this weekend the temperature will be perfect for walking on the beach or going for a swim.

Most of the local restaurants will have fresh caught “Dolphin”(Mahi-Mahi) on the menu. One of my favourite places to visit for a great "Dolphin Burger" is Pete’s Pub & Art Gallery in Little Harbour. Nestled right between the ocean and the harbour beach, you can enjoy a swim while your Mahi is cooking on the grill. While you wait, take a stroll up the pathway and feel the cool ocean breeze or visit the Art Gallery to marvel at the amazing bronze-work of Pete Johnston.

So whether you are fishing, swimming or just enjoying a cool drink under a palm tree, remember to have fun and relax. You’re in paradise.
