Many second home-owners are eager to get involved in the communities of their adopted homes. In keeping on the topic of conservation of the environment from last week, The Friends of the Environment is hosting their Annual Reef Ball this Saturday evening at The Abaco Inn in Hope Town. Itís a great opportunity for anyone to be a part of a great cause.
Before I tell you about the event, let me tell you a little bit about the Friends of the Environment. FRIENDS is a local non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving and protecting Abacoís natural environment in order to secure sustainable living for both the wildlife and the people of Abaco. FRIENDS works towards providing educational programs for Abacoís youth, it promotes individual responsibility and encourages communities to work together to safeguard Abacoís future. Itís full time staff teams up with international researchers and volunteers to provide programs and research to further understand the complexities of Abacoís delicate ecosystems. Just last year, they opened the Kenyon Research Center in Marsh Harbour where they can provide housing and lab facilities for educational programs and research projects.
At the Annual Reef Ball, there will be an award ceremony to recognise those who have done their very best to fulfil their duty to protect the future of Abaco. There will be both a silent and live auction, as well as a raffle, if bidding isnít your thing. Delicious local cuisine and live local music are the highlight of the night.
Tickets sell out fast, so come on out, enjoy yourself and show your support for a great cause! Help make sure that Abaco remains just as beautiful for years to come!
